The #2 Mid-Prairie boys soccer team survived a stiff road test Tuesday night, beating the Washington Demons in the county rivalry match 2-1. The Demons scored first with a Mason Quigley goal in the 12th minute. Washington threatened to double the lead with a penalty kick chance, but the shot was not on frame. Mid-Prairie found an answer in the 28th minute on an Austin Errthum goal. With the score tied at one going into the second half, the physical play continued as the defenses dug in.

The Golden Hawks would get the deciding goal on a great finish from Wyatt Cady in the 58th minute. In the 68th minute it took a miracle save from Nathan Faselt to keep the Hawks ahead on a chance from Quigley that hit two posts and keeper. Following the game Mid-Prairie Head Coach Pat Cady talked about the game plan going in and his teams execution.

“We came out flat. Prom. P-R-O-M, that just killed us this weekend,” Cady said. “We had a little talk in the second half and they finally started perking up, and it seems like we are a better second half team. We started making better passes to the feet, started making better runs to the corner, we talked about the areas they were giving us, we started attack the areas and the game started changing.”

With the win Mid-Prairie is now 4-1 and will host Williamsburg on Monday. Washington falls to 2-2 and will face off with Keokuk next week.
