During this National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, the men and women who serve as 911 dispatchers are being recognized for their service.Washington County 911 Supervisor Cara Sorrells says things have changed since she first started with the dispatch center in the 90’s, specifically the number of calls they receive, which she attributes to advances in technology. She says with the popularity of cellphones, when an accident occurs, it isn’t just a nearby homeowner calling 911, they also get called by people who drive by. She says in a few years texting 911 will be come an option, and eventually people may be able to send pictures and video.
