Fish will be introduced into the newly restored Lake Darling today. Bluegills will be the first species stocked in the lake. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will then come back in June and stock large mouth bass and channel catfish, and again in the fall to introduce redear sunfish.
Bluegills are being stocked first so they can grow to become sport fish that will produce offspring, providing prey for the bass and catfish.
DNR Fisheries Biologist Chad Dolan says they know this combination of species works well due to research conducted over the years.
