It was a tough day at the office for the Washington Demon golf team at yesterday’s Washington Invite at Ames golf course.

The Demons finished last in the six team field, 36 strokes behind fifth place. The low score for the Demons came from Derek Anding’s 88. Other scores from the Demons were a 90 from Ryan Waite, Blake Weidman shot a 95, Mason Rich hit a 98 and Austin Hazelett hit a 102. Tanner Coleman had no card.

Demon head coach Mark Berhow said this was one of those days that the course was the toughest opponent.

“Yesterday was very windy, and it was a wide open course, and like I said, sometimes the course wins, and yesterday the course won, so it is one of those things that we talked to the guys afterwards and said, ‘you know, we didn’t play very well, but we need to come with the attitude that, I want to get back here and beat this course instead of I don’t like this course or anything like that,'” Berhow said. “We had a good discussion on the way home, and hopefully we have some things that we can build on and we’ll move forward.”

Decorah won the meet with a 316, while Washington finished with a 371.

The Demons are back in action Thursday at home, when they host Fairfield and Keokuk.
