Emergency Medical Services Week wraps up today. For those considering entering EMS as an ambulance crew member, there are a few different options.

According to Director of Washington County Ambulance, Richard Young, they can pursue becoming an EMT, which stands for emergency medical technician. Young says it involves 400 hours of training and allows you to do basic things in an ambulance, like applying bandages.

After that training, they can look at becoming a paramedic by obtaining an associates degree. A paramedics training lets them do things an EMT can’t, like administering an IV and medication.
