The Mid-Prairie girls golf team plays for a chance to go to state tonight at the Kalona Golf Course.

The Golden Hawks host district leading Williamsburg, Nevada and South Hardin at the meet, along with Alex Krehbiel of Central Lee, Paige VanDyk of South Tama, and Cassidy Boe of Waterloo Columbus.

The Golden Hawks come into the meet in third place with last weeks score, but need second place to make their way up to state.

Head coach Tracy McArtor said it is a long season, but in tournament time, and playing at home really helps the team re-energize.

“As the season goes on, it’s just kind of golf everyday. You do to a few duals and triangulars here and there, conference rolls around and things get a little bit tougher and a little more interesting, and now that tournament time has rolled around, I think they are starting to realize that now is the time that we really need to concentrate, we really need to put things together, and if they can do at home like they did [at regionals], then I think they have a good shot at it,” McArtor said.

Today’s meet is an all day meet and will be played at the Kalona Golf Course.
