The Iowa Department of Natural Resources hopes to create some new anglers next weekend. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Iowa residents can fish without a license as part of the DNR’s free fishing weekend. The three day event allows residents to try fishing without buying a license, but all other regulations remain in place.

The free fishing weekend is scheduled during what is traditionally the time when bluegills are close to shore and aggressive According to DNR Fisheries Biologist Chad Dolan,  Crawford Pond near Ainsworth and Clemons Creek Wildlife Area are two local spots good for fishing.
