The amount the state legislature accomplished this session is still up in the air, despite it being over. The session wrapped up the first few days of May, giving Governor Terry Branstad until the end of the month to sign off on bills passed by the House and Senate. Representative Jarad Klein says Branstad can also use his line item veto authority. One area he’s confident the Governor will support them on is reducing state debt. Klein says last year they started paying back bonds early and are set to do the same again this year, which has the potential to free up $15 million annually in state revenue.
