Three cases of Middle East respiratory syndrome, or MERS, have been confirmed in the United States. MERS is a respiratory virus that starts will flu-like symptoms, such as fever and cough which may lead to shortness of breath, pneumonia and death. Most reported cases have been in Saudi Arabia. Senator Chuck Grassley states what he feels the virus needs to be tracked and continue research. He believes travel should not be restricted at this time. The three cases of MERS have been in Florida, Indiana and Illinois. According to the Associated Press, the virus is not considered highly infectious.
