The City of Hills water system project will begin in the next month. The project was bid on in two portions, division one included the water lines and water plant, while division two just includes the water tower.

With a bid of around $4,350,000, city officials chose Dave Schmidt Construction of Cedar Rapids for division one.  The city went with Maquire Iron to build the water tower for $767,000.

City Clerk Bonnie Hansen says the bid selected for division one is $500,000 over the initial estimate, so the city council is planning to meet on the 19th to discuss how to finance that additional cost. Residents of Hills currently rely on personal wells for water.
