The City of Kalona has received funding for improvements at the city park. The City was awarded a Washington County Riverboat grant last week for one of several projects they submitted applications for. The foundation gave the city $10,000 for a scoreboard and PA system for the park’s Babe Ruth field.

At their most recent meeting, the Kalona City Council approved an application for the next round of Riverboat grants. The city will submit it on behalf of the English River Watershed Management Authority. It’s for a small Plexiglas flood mitigation simulator the watershed group would bring to schools, fairs and public meetings to educate the public on the effects of flooding and the impact mitigation efforts can have.
