The 14-2 Mid-Prairie boys soccer team plays for a chance to go to Des Moines tonight when they face Albia.

It has been as close to a perfect season for Mid-Prairie as they could ask for, losing twice in overtime to a team that haunts them, but tonight they play Albia, a team that Mid-Prairie beat 2-0 in the regular season.

The Golden Hawks look to their big time players to make a difference in Austin Errthum and Wyatt Cady. They have combined for 41 goals this season.

Albia finished up the regular season 13-2, and beat Williamsburg 8-1 in the playoffs to get to the sub-state final. Albia looks for Shadow Leshen and Caleb Gray to lead the way for them with 34 goals combined, these are two teams that on paper look vary similar.

Head coach Pat Cady said look for Albia to send a pass to Gray to lead the attack.

“Albia likes to swing it around to the right back and then he plays it as far forward as he can, and they like to hit that Gray kid on the right side. Gray likes to center it back for either Shadow or for their No. 10 also,” Cady said.

Tonight’s game has a trip to the state tournament on the line, and is being played at Mid-Prairie starting at noon.
