Corn and soybean planting is nearly complete in southeast Iowa.According to the Iowa Crop Progress and Condition report, this area is right around the state average, as well as the five year average, when it comes to planting. As of this week, 95% of corn acreage is planted, while soybean planting is around three quarters of the way done.

Adequate topsoil moisture has helped 70% of corn in this portion of the state emerge. But if yields are going to be decent this fall, Washington County Farmer Jim Cuddeback says they need rain, not downpours, throughout the summer so that moisture can make it down to the subsoil. 50% of which is currently short on moisture.
