The No. 6 in Class 1A Sigourney-Keota Cobra football team finished an undefeated district campaign Friday with a 62-12 road romp over the Eddyville-Blakesburg Rockets. The Cobras sprinted out of the start, leading 35-6 after one and 49-12 at half. SK added a touchdown in each of the third and fourth quarters to put the game away. The Cobras won the total yardage battle 364 to 278 including 303 to 182 on the ground. Isaac Bruns was a special team spark, returning two kickoffs for touchdown, and got to the end zone twice rushing, on five carries for 56 yards. Sawyer Stout had a pair of touchdowns, one through the air and one on the ground with a total of 136 all-purpose yards. Kale Clarahan had two rush scores with 41 yards on six carries. Brady Clark added a rushing touchdown for SK and Cole Kindred hauled in the scoring throw. Caden Clarahan led the defense with seven tackles and Kindred and Jake Moore each picked off a pass. This week, SK head coach Jared Jensen joined the KCII Radio Coaches Corner to talk about his biggest takeaways from the win. Jensen said, “Special teams played pretty well. Isaac Bruns had two kickoff returns for touchdowns. Offensively, the offensive line had a solid night. They did a great job. Backs hit holes and found yards. We had seven or eight ball carriers and kept pounding away. Defensively, we did a lot better job in the second half against their option. District champs four years in a row! Crazy to think that the senior group has never lost a district game in their high school career. Excited about where we are right now entering the playoffs!”

The Cobras finish the regular season with a 7-1 overall record and as 5-0 champions of Class 1A District 6. Their fourth straight district championship. SK begins the 1A playoffs Friday at the Snake Pit as the number one seed, when they host fourth seeded 3-5 West Central Valley of Stuart.
