The Winfield-Mt. Union boys golf team took top area honors at the 18 hole Golden Hawk Invitational Tuesday in Kalona. The Wolves shot 356 as a team to take 5th place overall. Mt. Vernon won the meet with a team score of 331. Leading WMU was Klayton Booth with a card of 80. After the meet Booth talked about the round.

“Today the greens were really hard, and really fast, otherwise the course was nice,” Booth said. “That’s how I’ve been the whole year, I’ve been about five over through nine, but I played about average today. I parred most of the holes, and then I got a plus four on hole number six, but otherwise it was a good day.”

Other scores for the Wolves included Jake Edwards 86, Zach Davis at 94, Trevor McIlhinney at 96, Kolt Rossiter at 99 and Sam Jennings with a 112. IMS took 8th in the nine team field with a team score of 444. Iowa Mennonite was led by Ben Miller’s 103. Other scores for IMS included Tanner Leyden at 105, Lane Schrock with a 115, Roman Slabach at 121, RidgeLee Gingerich with a 126 and Zach Hill at 140.

Host school Mid-Prairie finished in 9th place with a team score of 455 led by Paul Hawbaker’s 93. Other Golden Hawk scores included Seth Mann at 116, Zach Owens with a 122 and Ethan Danner at 124.
