The Washington Demon softball team dropped a pair of game last night to Fairfield.

In game one, the Demons struggled early on with Fairfield scoring an early run in the first inning and having the bases loaded in both the first and second inning with two down, but the Demons escaped with no damage done.

Ashley Rausch controlled the game herself, striking out 11 and increasing her season total to 35. The Demons had their turn to hit off Alli Deao in the fourth inning when Stephanie Fishback led off with a single, and Rausch drove her home on an RBI double. Then it was Lexi Redlinger who came through for the Demons with a drive that scored Kayla Andrew who was running for Rausch to put the Demons up 2-1. In the bottom half of the fifth, Fairfield got their first three batters on off errors by Washington, and a passed ball scored the tying run. In the six, Washington had a chance to get a runner home, but they left Grace Redlinger stranded in scoring position, which was a big key to the game as the Demons left 10 runners on base and five or more in scoring position. Fairfield got up in the seventh inning and only needed three batters, as Karly Williams hit a single to get on, Marissa Repp put down the sacrifice bunt to move her over, and then a deep single to the outfield from MacKenzie McClure scored the winning run 3-2.

In game two, it was Washington who got on the board first with a two RBI hit by Amber Linnenkamp after the bases were walked loaded, but in the third inning throwing errors by the Demons and good hits by Fairfield pushed them out to a 5-2 lead. The Trojans added two more insurance runs in the fifth and sixth and went on to win 7-3.

Washington was led at the plate by Stephanie Fishback, going 5-8 on the night with two runs.

Washington falls to 2-4 on the season and will play at a tournament in Oskaloosa tomorrow.
