The Demon softball team plays a very important doubleheader tonight when they travel down to Ft. Madison.

Washington is sitting third after a sweep of Mt. Pleasant last week, and need to avenge a split with the Bloodhounds the last time they played.

At the plate for Washington, Grace Redlinger is the lead bat with a .466 average, a home run, nine RBI’s and a triple, while the next bat in the lineup is the young eighth grader in Kayla Andrew who has seven RBI’s and a home run with a .321 average. In the circle for Washington Ashley Rausch is still the top pitcher with a 1.59 ERA, a conference dominating 92 strikeouts, and opponents are hitting .176 off of her.

For the Bloodhounds, they are having just over a .500 season. Kaylin Featheringill is the top bat with a .619 average, 21 RBI’s a home run and a triple, Kayla Kolbertson is second with a .406 average and two home runs. Ft. Madison has eight bats with an average of .306 or better. In the circle Chayse Lowney has a 5-1 record with a 4.20 ERA, while Jaycee Pumphrey is 3-5 with a 6.19 ERA.

Demon head coach Angie Shrader says her team is right where they want to be, but they need a pair of wins here tonight.

“It’s a situation where were are right where we need to be in conference play, we’re sitting in third, but we are still in the hunt, we’re still in the fight, and we have that opportunity to be where we are at in the front of the conference, but we have to make sure that we are going out and be focused,” Shrader said. “The kids have the ability, they know they can do it, we have games where they play extremely well, we’ve had games where we have hit the ball extremely well, we just have to put it all together, and hopefully we’ll get that together for [tonight’s] matches and have two good conference wins.”

Tonight’s double header is at Ft. Madison with a 5:30 start time for game one.
