The Washington Demon softball team split in their triangular on Saturday, beating WACO 18-0, but falling to Sigourney.

The Demon bats went cold against the Savages, getting no runs on two hits and stranding six runners on base.

Sigourney won the game 2-0 and scored the only two runs of the game in the first inning when Jordan Carter and Maddi Deny got walked. A passed ball moved them over to third and second, and then a passed ball that went to the fence scored Carter. When Carter slid in she took out Ashley Rausch as Jessie Buchholz was throwing the ball back to her and the ball went all the way back to the circle. No Demon was backing up the throw, so Deny took the opportunity to get across the plate and score the second run of the inning, and the last of the game.

Jordan Carter threw for the Savages, throwing all seven innings, allowing two hits, one walk, five strikeouts and hitting one batter.

Rausch threw seven innings, allowed two hits, two earned runs, four walks and 13 strikeouts.

Demon head coach Angie Shrader said her team needs those timely hits to start coming around.

“Our pitchers, both today, threw really well, and that’s the frustrating part. I think [Rausch] have 13 strikeouts, and only gave up two hits, and the only people that get on base are two walks, and they end up moving on a passed ball, and then we try to throw one out on a passed ball, and no one’s there backing up and they score two on a passed ball, and that’s the only runs of the game, and that’s frustrating. The other frustrating part is we had three hits, and we have to find some way to be confident at the plate and get it done, because three hits at the plate isn’t going to get it done no matter who you are playing. Yeah they have a good pitcher, but we have to find a way to get people on base and put the pressure on,” Shrader said.

In game one, Amber Linnenkamp threw a one hitter against WACO. Sigourney beat WACO 13-1.

The Demons move to 8-12 on the season, and play a pair of very big games tonight against Fairfield at Washington.
