The Washington Demon baseball team split a pair of games with Keokuk last night in their throwback uniform game.

In game one, the Demons and Chiefs did all they could offensively in the first inning. The Chiefs started the game with a couple of bloopy hits, and then a RBI double got their run across. For the Demons, it was a single by Tanner Knupp, a single by Walker Breard, and then an RBI single by Dakota Kron right up the middle that scored Knupp. Both teams threatened in the game, but both pitchers were up to the task until the bottom of the seventh. The Demons had Weidman get walked, but a fielders choice by Tanner Renoux canceled it out with one down. Bryce Craff got hit by a pitch, and then Mason Quigley got walked to load the bases to bring up Jacob Green. Green drilled a ball up the middle that hit Nathan Lisering in the foot and bounced to short stop. The throw was to home, but Brandt Ames, in an effort to get the out, pulled his foot and the Demon got the win 2-1.

Elijah Wood went seven innings with seven strikeouts and allowed six hits, one run and it was earned. Green at the plate was 2-4 with the game winning RBI.

The second game was one the Demons wish started in the fifth inning.

Washington went through three pitchers in three innings, and walked nine batters in those three innings, giving up nine runs in the process. The Demons scored two runs, with one in the first and one in the second, but Washington never could catch up to Keokuk who got out to a 14-2 lead by the seventh. Washington did see a nice double in the seventh inning by Knupp and then a two run shot from Walker Breard to finish out the scoring for the Demons.

Michael Gier was a breath of fresh air in the second half of the game, giving up four runs, but fanning five in his 3 2/3 innings of work.

Washington is now 1-1 in conference play and 4-4 overall. The Demons are off until Tuesday when they play Pella.
