Large mouth bass will be stocked in Lake Darling later this month. The process started in April when the Iowa Department of Natural Resources introduced bluegills, then continued May 30th when they brought in 30,400 2 inch channel catfish. According to DNR Fisheries Biologist, Chad Dolan, the 21,000 bass they’ve ordered should arrive by the end of the month. In October they’ll stock redear sunfish, and then they’ll return in the spring with locally sourced black crappie.

Dolan says they know this combination of species works well due to research conducted over the years.

A grand opening for Lake Darling State Park is tentatively set for the first of July, but could be moved back if construction is delayed.
