The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks play a rivalry game during a tournament today when they take on IMS.

Mid-Prairie is hosting a four team tournament that includes themselves, IMS, Mt. Pleasant and Davenport North, and the Golden Hawks have picked to get looks at IMS for on of their two games.

The Golden Hawks are 3-7 this year, and look to scoop up a couple of wins today. On the mound, the Golden Hawks look to their top pitcher in Seth Eash, and at the Plate it is the senior swing of Spencer Shalla that leads the way.

Mid-Prairie head coach Ryan Koller said this is a good game between two local teams.

“It’s always a good rivalry, it usually brings in a good crown, and a lot of the kids know each other so it’s usually fun just to go out there and play pretty much a rivalry team that we can’t really schedule them during the year, so it’s always nice to play them in the tournament,” Koller said.

IMS is 3-4 this year with a solid core of pitchers. Peyton Miller has thrown a full game, is 1-0 and allowed just two hits during it and no runs. The go-to pitcher is Tanner Leyden with a 1-2 record 21 innings pitched and a 2.33 ERA and 14 strikeouts. At the plate, Dallas Nye is the guy, with a .409 average, six RBI’s two homeruns and three doubles. Reggie Hostetler is only hitting .261, but he also has two homeruns.

IMS head coach Danny Hershberger said it should be a tough game as always against the Golden Hawks.

“We get to play Mt. Pleasant and Mid-Prairie, so it is two bigger schools [that have been] both traditionally good programs, so it is going to be a challenge for our guys,” Hershberger said. “We’ve been challenged by seeing good pitching so far in the first couple weeks of the season and we expect the same [today], and our guys we’ll bounce back and be ready to go.”
