The Kalona City Council has selected contractors for their sanitary sewer improvement project. The installation of a force main that will go from the lift station to the lagoon will be done by Cornerstone Excavating for around $179,000. For approximately $913,000, Municipal Pipe Tool Company is going to clean and inspect the sewer line that runs south of Highway 22 and reline any problem areas. City officials believe groundwater is making it to the wastewater treatment plant by infiltrating the old line. Work will begin later this summer.
