In a Southeast Iowa Superconference Shootout Friday night in Kalona Louisa-Muscatine escaped with a 10-9 win over IMS in nine innings. After neither team could score in the first L-M got on the board with three in the second including a solo homer by Randyn Carter. IMS would get one of those runs back in the bottom half when Joya Schrock scored on a Falcon error. L-M took their largest lead of the night at 5-1 with two more runs in the third. IMS was quick with an answer however scoring three in their half of the third, one of those crossing home plate on an RBI ground out by Natalie Graber.

The offenses continued to trade punches with the score 5-4 L-M made it 7-4 in the top half of the fourth with a pair of runs. Iowa Mennonite tied the game with three of their own in the fourth as Shrock and Majerick each drove in a run. The two teams continued to trade runs with each scoring a single run in the fifth and sixth innings leaving the game tied at nine going to seventh. In the final inning of regulation IMS would load the bases but could not come away with the game winning hit, in the eighth IMS left runners on first and second. The Falcons took the lead in the ninth when Madison sterms led off with a double and came in to score on a passed ball. IMS would rally one more time, in their ninth inning they got two out singles from Majerick and Kaylin Brokaw but they were stranded as a fly out to left ended the game.

Game play on the field was rough with each team running into several outs on the base paths, including the Falcons getting caught in two steal situation double plays. Louisa-Muscatine also had a run taken off the board when it was determined that Sydni Wagner never touched home plate and was tagged out as she tried to come back to home from the dugout. The teams committed four errors in the field apiece. Rachel Miller took the loss for IMS she pitched all nine, surrendering 10 runs, just five of them earned and walked seven batters. Lacey Verink got the win going the distance allowing nine runs, five of them earned 16 hits, she struck out nine and walked five. IMS is now 1-4 on the season and hosts Mediapolis on Monday.
