The Washington Demon baseball team was feeling it at the plate last night, winning 13-0 over the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks in five innings.

In the first inning, the Golden Hawks threatened with a run as Nick Stimson lead off the game by getting hit with a pitch and worked his way over to third, but Zach Londberg was up to the task and kept them off the score board. In the Demons first inning, Tanner Knupp got the lead off walk and stole his way to third before Jacob Green drove him in off a RBI single. Green then got caught in a pickle and caught stealing, one of two that Stimson got in the game. The Demons took the 1-0 lead into the second. Mid-Prairie was sent down in short order in the second and third innings, including a four pitch third for Londberg.

In the offensive half for the Demons they went through eight batters and scored four runs off of three hits to go up 5-0 after two, and in the third inning, had two outs quickly and found a way to bat through the order and score five runs off of four hits to go up 9-0. Mid-Prairie had a chance with runners in scoring position in the fourth, but Londberg once again took care of business, and so did the offense, putting up three more runs in the fourth off of relief pitcher Sonny Christianson to make it 13-0. The Golden Hawks had one more go at things, and almost ruined Londberg’s “no-no,” but Washington got a fielders choice instead and the freshmen Southpaw got the five inning no hitter.

Demon head coach Nathan Miller said it was a no hitter that belongs to everyone who played in the game.

“[Why it was] a true team victory was because we played five innings, and [Londberg] threw three strikeouts, which means our defense did a tremendous job. [Mid-Prairie] put the ball in play, we we made the plays behind him, I mean second play of the game [Jacob] ‘Greeny’ makes an outstanding play to his left on his knees and makes the throw over to first base and then the game just kind of continued on from there,” Miller said. “Very pleased with the pitching and defensive effort. You talk about no-hitters and a lot of the credit goes to the pitcher and it should, but that is a true team no-hitter right there an outstanding effort.”

Londberg got the win going five innings with no hits and no runs, two walks, two hit batters and three strikeouts. At the plate the Demons were led by Jacob Green who went 3-3 with two RBI’s and a run, Tanner Knupp who went 2-2 with three runs and an RBI, and Mason Quigley who went 2-3 with a run and two RBI’s.

For the Golden Hawks, Stimson took the loss going three innings and giving up nine hits, 10 runs, eight earned, three walks and fanning two. Christianson went one inning with two hits, three runs, two earned and striking out two.

Washington moves to 6-6 on the season and travels to Ft. Madison for a crucial conference doubleheader on Thursday, while Mid-Prairie will regroup for North Cedar on Thursday.
