We’ll try it again at the state championship today.

The Mid-Prairie boys soccer program seeks their first state championship in school history today when they match up with rival and defending state champion Iowa City Regina in Des Moines. The Regals have won three state titles in a row while the Golden Hawks are making their first trip ever to the Cownie Soccer Complex in the state capital. These two River Valley Conference teams were supposed to see each other in mid May but weather prevented that match up. Mid-Prairie enters play on an 11 game winning streak having outscored their opponents 60-5 during that stretch including knocking out #1 Dyersville Beckman. Mid-Prairie is the number one team in the state in scoring with 91 goals, first in assists with 67 and tops in scoring defense allowing just .6 goals per game. Individual Austin Errthum leads the way with 26 goals on the season good for fifth in the state, Wyatt Cady has 20 and is eighth in scoring, Errthum leads the state with 23 assists on the season.

The #2 Regals have won their last five in a row, beating #5 Clear Lake in the semifinals 2-1. Regina has the states second toughest defense allowing just .7 goals per game but the Regals will try to keep things low scoring as they don’t rank in the top ten as a team or have any individuals ranked there offensively. For goals the Regals look to Michael Adam and his team high nine, Emilio Tovar is second on the team with seven.
