Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack has announced a USDA program to conserve land while helping beginning farmers. This week a program was announced, where retiring farmers enrolled in Conservation Reserve Program, or CRP, can receive incentives to transfer portions of land to beginning, disadvantaged or veteran farmers. It is called Transition Incentives Program or TIP. Vilsack reported the average age of farmers and ranchers in the US is 58 years. Also, landowners can sign up for CRP beginning Monday, June 9th.
