The 5-6 Washington Demon baseball team hosts Mid-Prairie tonight for the Washington County Rivalry, but the game is more than just that.

Tonight’s game for the Demons and Golden Hawks is the 2014 Strikeout Cancer event. Demon head coach Nathan Miller said it is especially nice this year to play the game against another in-county team.

“Not only is it a great rivalry night, but everyone comes together for one purpose, and we have been very fortunate and very happy to be able to raise so many dollars for Relay for Life over the past two years and this marks our third year of doing this,” Miller said.

The Demons come into the game 5-6 on the season after falling to the Panthers twice last week on the road. At the plate Washington is swinging the bat pretty well. Power hitter Walker Breard is leading the way with a .424 average, slugging percentage of .758, and has 12 RBI’s and three homeruns. Tanner Knupp, Jacob Green, Dakota Kron and Elijah Wood are all hitting .343 or better on the season as well, but the Demons have a large drop off of over .1 after Wood. On the mound the Demons have Wood with 27 strikeouts and a .72 ERA, but have 55 walks to 66 strikeouts as a staff.

Mid-Prairie comes into the game after their close shave with IMS this weekend. They are 4-8, and led at the plate by Adam Schrock with a .444 average, and Nick Stimson behind him. On the mound for the Golden Hawks Seth Eash is the ace with a .54 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 13 innings of work.
