The City of Kalona and United States Postal Service have renewed their lease agreement. The contract for 2016 through 2021 will bring the city around $1400 a month. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says the city council approved the purchase of the post office building in 2010 with the future in mind. The only other buildings on that portion of downtown are the Community Center and Fire Department, meaning the city council has the ability to do what it wants with the block. Schlabaugh says for example, they could expand the fire department if space became an issue.
