The priorities of Fairfield Police Officers have changed following an evaluation and restructuring of the department’s operating procedures. According to the department, this was done to address a substantial increase in complicated investigations, including vehicle burglaries, domestic assaults, drug cases and sexual assaults.

To ensure they’re able to deal with those responsibilities, non-law enforcement activities were eliminated. For instance, the department will not pick up loose dogs, unless they are deemed vicious and a threat to public safety. The restructuring also means officers will no longer pick up abandoned bikes or respond to nuisance animal calls.

Questions and concerns are being directed to Police Chief David Thomas. He can be reached by calling the department’s non-emergency number.
