The Mid-Prairie softball team came up winners against West Burlington Notre Dame yesterday.
The Golden Hawks got the win 5-2 despite leaving six runners on in the first four innings. The Golden Hawks had their chances in the first two innings, and Taylor Kurtz was throwing a beauty, sending the Falcons down in short order in the first two innings, but it was the Falcons that scored first in the third inning after miscommunication led to an infield single, a double moved the runner over and an RBI single from Courtney Coffin put the 1-0 lead on the board.
The Golden Hawks came back in the next two innings and took control of the game, scoring off an Ali Naylor walk and an RBI double from Ashley Sojka to make it 1-1, and then put up four in the fifth after the Falcons decided to load the bases on the fourth drawn walk from Kurtz that came back to bite them as Naylor walked in a run, Chelsea Kral drove in two RBI’s on a single and a passed ball scored the fourth to make it 5-1. West Burlington scored one more in the sixth with the tying run on base, but came up short as the game ended early on the 90 minute time limit.
Mid-Prairie was led by Amber Kral at the plate with a 2-3 game and a run, while Kurtz in the circle went six innings and gave up five hits, two runs, a walk and fanned five.
