Mid-Prairie jumped on Williamsburg early in Friday’s Regional Semifinal in Kalona, cruising to an 8-1 win. The first four Mid-Prairie batters of the game reached base against Raider starter Nicole Zuber. Amber Kral drove in Alex Rath and Lexi Duwa with a double to make the score 2-0. Kral came in on an Emma Troyer RBI ground out and Maddie Zahradnek scored on a Whitney Christiansen ground out to make it 4-0 after one. Williamsburg had no answer at the plate against Golden Hawk starter Taylor Kurtz who allowed just four hits on the night. The Raiders took advantage of the Golden Hawk defense to score their only run. Mid-Prairie committed two errors on one play in the third and Olivia Dohrmann came in to score from second base to make it 4-1.

Mid-Prairie took control back in the fourth with four runs, sending eight batters to the plate. All in a row, Chelsea Kral doubled to drive in Emily Cayton, Ashley Sojka singled to drive in Kral, Rath doubled to drive in Sojka and Duwa singled to drive in Rath. The Golden Hawks smacked five total hits in the inning. After the game Head Coach Kara Beatty talked about her team’s consistency throughout the lineup.

“I’ve had confidence all year. One through nine, whoever is at the plate is going to get the job done. Four and five didn’t hit, but the bottom and the top of the order did tonight, so we pick each other up throughout the lineup,” Beatty said.

Kurtz got the win for Mid-Prairie going all seven innings, allowing four hits, one unearned, walking one and striking out three. Rath went three for four at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI. Mid-Prairie is now 24-10 on the season and will play in the regional final Monday night at Iowa City West against No.1 Benton.
