The #1 Highland softball team completed the season sweep of IMS on Senior Night Tuesday in Kalona with 14-0 win in five innings. IMS honored the lone senior on the roster, Jacayla Litwiller. Highland tallied three times in the first inning as Cheyenne Adamson and Kelsey Hora singled to start the game. Courtney Hahn ripped a triple to left to score two and Bailey Walsh doubled to drive in another. The Huskies would post two more runs in the second as Adamson and Jordan Rath scored on hits by Bridget Murphy and Hahn to make it 5-0. Both teams went scoreless in the third inning and Highland put up two runs on a pair of hits and two IMS errors in the fourth to run the score to 7-0. The Huskies exploded in the top of the fifth inning putting the game out of reach with seven runs on six hits including a solo homer by Hahn. After the game Head Coach Carrie Wieland talked about her team’s approach at the plate.

“I think we took a little too much time to get the perfect pitch. She’s a little bit slower that we see normally, so she needs to throw a little bit slower each time, so I think the girls just needed to get their timing down, and then hit the ball after awhile,” Wieland said. “The mindset tonight was they picked the pitch before they went up there, instead of waiting for the good pitch to come to them, so we wanted to be more aggressive at the plate and take the good pitches when they were there.”

Katie Springer recorded the win for Highland, throwing all five innings she allowed just two hits, walked one and struck out seven. Rachel Miller took the loss for IMS going all five innings, allowing 14 runs on 14 hits, walking three and striking out two. At the plate Highland was led by Adamson, Hahn and Rath who each had three hits on the night. Hora, Murphy and Hahn each had two RBI. IMS got one hit a piece from Litwiller and Kaylin Brokaw. Highland remains a perfect 16-0 in conference play following the win and 26-1 overall. IMS falls to 2-15 on the year overall.
