The Highland softball team kicks off the state softball tournament today in a forecasted hot and humid afternoon.
The Huskies are the No. 1 team in the state, and face St. Ansgar in their first trip back to Fort Dodge since 2009.
Highland is led by Cheyann Adamson at the plate with a .554 average, 48 runs scored, three homers, five triples and 39 RBI’s from the lead off spot. Morgan Craig is the second leading hitter with a .518 average and 38 RBI’s, and those are just two of the nine hitters from Highland that you have to face. In the circle, the Huskies are led by the arm of Katie Springer with a 27-1 record, 1.56 ERA, 188 strikeouts to just 20 walks and opponents hit .195 off of her.
St. Ansgar only has one bat over .400 with Mel Gerbig hitting .412 with 35 RBI’s and two homers on the year. Paige Salz is second on the team hitting .366 with 20 RBI’s. In the circle is Alex Patterson with a 19-6 record, 2.44 ERA 132 strikeouts to 24 walks and opponents hit .238 off of her.
