The Highland softball team plays their second round at the state softball tournament today.

The Huskies won 5-0 in the first round, and look to do the same in the second round in the winners bracket.

Highland’s Katie Springer threw a beauty of a first game, facing only three extra hitters in the game, and sending down the Saints in short order from the fourth inning to the end of the game.

The Huskies play Eddyville-Blakesburg-Freemont today. The Rockets beat Alburnett 5-1 in the first round. At the plate the Rockets don’t have anyone hitting over .400, but have five hitting over .300, and seven over .250. Tasha Alexander is the top bat with a .387 average, 31 RBI’s and five homers on the season. In the circle is one of the top pitchers in the state in Nataliah Hopkins with a 24-4 record, .95 ERA, 155 strikeouts to 46 walks and opponents hit just .178 off of her.
