The IMS baseball team opens up district play tonight at Pekin when they face the English Valley Bears. IMS enters tonight’s action with a 10-15 record overall and are trying to get back on the right track after dropping four of their final five regular season games. IMS is hitting .275 as a team led by Dallas Nye’s .397 average. Reggie Hostetler and Brent Brenneman also have averages above the .300 mark. On the hill IMS has been led by Junior Payton Miller with a 2-2 record with a 2.55 ERA.

The English Valley Bears are 10-12 this year, they finished 10-9 in the South Iowa Cedar League, good for sixth place. The Bears are hitting .290 as a team led by Brennen Grimm’s .492 average. English Valley has four other batters with averages above .300. On the hill the Bears’ ace is Adam Kerkove with a 7-1 record and 2.41 ERA. Tonight’s game is at Pekin with first pitch at 5PM.
