The second work session regarding jailers wages in Washington County was held yesterday following the the supervisors’ meeting. The Washington County Sheriff’s office and the board of supervisors are working to find common ground regarding raising jailers’ wages to comparable levels. Yesterday, Supervisor Richard Young proposed agreeing upon a starting wage and top level wage and then deciding how to create steps for the employees. Young added there may be some large percent increases to get the wages back up.

Chief Deputy Jared Schneider stated the plan the sheriff’s department proposed isn’t out of line, as it would increase pay rates over a few years, not all at once. Another work session will be held next week.

Schneider has been directed to review and try to find a compromise between the sheriff’s department plan and the plan proposed by Young.
