An agreement between the Washington County Board of Supervisors and Washington County Sheriff Jerry Dunbar regarding pay rates for jailers has not been reached yet. A work session was held this week to discuss finding middle ground for the jailers wages. Sheriff Dunbar said he wants to get a fair wage for the work his employees do.

Dunbar stated since 2007 the jail has had 54 employees. Supervisor Bob Yoder asked about the cost of losing employees due to training.

The supervisors earlier approved a 2% increase for all employees, while Dunbar believes there should be a step increase as well, in order to get the jailers’ wages to comparable levels of surrounding counties. Another work session has tentatively been scheduled for next week.
