For the second straight season the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks rolled through the consolation bracket at the state softball tournament to claim the fifth place trophy. Mid-Prairie finished it’s 2014 run at Fort Dodge with a 7-5 win over the Stormin’ Pointers from Center Point Urbana.

The Golden Hawks brought the lumber in the contest and showed it off early as Amber Kral got Mid-Prairie on the board with a two run homer to deep left center field in the first inning, scoring Alex Rath. CPU put together their best inning of the day in the second and took a 3-2 lead on four straight singles and RBI from Taylor Henderson and Alyssa Wade. Mid-Prairie took the lead right back with a second inning power surge, this time from Chelsea Kral who smacked a no doubt three run homer to left, scoring Amanda Miller and Ali Naylor to make it 5-3 Hawks.

The Pointers tied things at five in the fourth when Alyssa Wade stroked a two run homer to left but Mid-Prairie countered in the offensive show as Lexi Duwa ripped an RBI single through the middle scoring Abby Tornow to make it 6-5 Mid-Prairie. The Hawks got an insurance run in the fifth on a long solo homer from Emma Troyer to make it 7-5 and Kurtz and the Golden Hawk defense closed the door in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win in the time shortened game.

Kurtz recorded the win in the circle going six innings, allowing eight hits, five runs, walking three and striking out two. At the plate the Hawks were led by Chelsea Kral who was two for three with three RBI and a run scored. Amber Kral went two for three with two RBI and a run scored. Mid-Prairie ends their season at 27-11.
