Lone Tree wasted no time taking control of a Wednesday afternoon make up doubleheader on their way to a sweep of IMS. In game one the Lady Lions put up a six spot in the first inning as six of the first seven batters reached base against IMS starter Rachel Miller. Liz Dodson drove in Haley Comer on an RBI single, Marisa Swails drove in Mackenzie Reynolds and Dodson on a two RBI base hit and Emily Feldman smacked a bases clearing triple to drive in Dodson, Swails and Morgyn Edwards. After the game Feldman talked about her approach at the plate against Miller.

“My perfect pitch, the one that I feel confident in and want to drive. Something to get on base to help the girl score, or at least move the bases around,” Feldman said.

The lions would get to Miller again in the third this time for five runs on just one hit and two IMS errors with Maddy Flemr drawing an RBI walk and Swails cracking an RBI single running the score to 9-0. IMS broke through against Edwards in the fourth with a pair of runs as Stasia Majerick and Summer Schrock came around to score on a two out RBI double by Kaylin Brokaw making the score 11-2. Lone Tree ended the game early with a four run fifth inning when Swails drove in Reynolds with an RBI ground out and Feldman smacked her second RBI triple of the day driving in Dodson and Karley Hester to complete the 15-2 win in five innings. After the game Lone Tree Head Coach Tom Dickey talked about his team’s offensive performance

“We wanted to get off to a good start and score a lot of runs, and we have speed and we have some good bunters and that type of thing, and we wanted to get people on base right away and get things moving. We had some kids come through, Emily had a big triple with two outs, going from 3-0, to 6-0 really helped,” Dickey said. “It just gives us a lot of confidence to start the game.”

Edwards recorded the win for Lone Tree going all five innings giving up two runs, six hits, walking four and striking out three. Miller took the loss for IMS going the distance surrendering 15 runs, eight hits, nine walks and striking out three. Nine different players scored in game one for Lone Tree. Feldman was two for three with two triples and five RBI. Swails was two for four with 4RBI. IMS got two hits from Majerick.

Game two saw Lone Tree come from behind to win 16-4 in four innings. The Lions got on the board with a pair of runs in the first only to see IMS take their first lead of the afternoon with a four spot in the second. The Lions answered with seven in the home half to make the score 9-4 and never looked back with three more in the third and four more in the fourth for the win. Swails went one for two in game two with three more RBI. Flemr and Edwards each drove in a pair. Edwards got the win going four innings allowing five hits, four runs, while walking two and striking out five. Lone Tree is now 7-6 in conference play and 11-15 overall. IMS falls to 2-16 on the year.
