Students from Mid-Prairie High School and Iowa Mennonite School helped with the flood preparation in Kalona yesterday. The thirty students assisted the city with their sandbag effort. According to City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh, they filled 750. He says if the city sees flooding they do their best to protect residential and business property, but it’s critical they keep storm water out of their wells and away from the lift station. If the situation calls for it the Fire Department is called upon to start building flood barriers, and if more help is needed, the city reaches out to the public through churches and other organizations.
