Veterans had the chance to meet with Congressman Dave Loebsack in Washington this week. The Democratic Congressman held an open meeting Monday at the Washington Public Library as part of his Serving Those Who Served tour. Veterans health services, including mental health services, were discussed. Multiple people spoke of positive experiences with the VA hospital in Iowa City. Loebsack stated it is great to hear but there is still more work to do and access to services needs to be expanded. He did acknowledge the system across the country is broken down, but Iowa does well. Also, the possibility of privatizing was discussed, to which Loebsack said there may be a way to compromise by making some things, such as routine blood tests, available at local, rural hospitals.
