The Washington County I-S-U Extension Office will host a workshop next month for confinement site manure applicator certification. The two-hour program is arranged through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach. The program can help fulfill the state requirements that confinement site manure applicators attend two hours of continuing education a year during a three-year certification period.

The workshop fulfills the requirement for both new certification and for those people renewing their certification.  It’s for anyone handling, transporting, or applying manure from confinement facilities.  Operators must be certified to handle, transport, and apply manure if a confinement livestock operation has more than a 500 animal unit capacity. The exception is if the manure is applied by a commercial manure applicator.  The certification fee is $100 for a three-year certificate.  The program is February 12 at 7 pm.
