Twenty-four people have died in Iowa as a result of motorcycle wrecks so far this year, more than this time last year. At the end of July last year, 19 had died in motorcycle crashes in Iowa, with 11 more in August and 41 during all of 2013. In 2012, 56 people died in motorcycle crashes in Iowa and 34 died in 2011.

Fifteen of those who have died this year were not wearing helmets, two were and the other seven crashes were unknown. Iowa and Illinois are the only states in the country that do not have any helmet laws.
