The Iowa New Jobs Training Program has created 756 jobs in the Creative Corridor, which stretches from Cedar Rapids to Washington, for 18 companies. Iowa Renewable Energy of Washington was one of these companies. Kirkwood Community College recently assisted the businesses with their applications for the program which has incentives for companies expanding operations or relocating to a new facility in the state. Kirkwood, in cooperation with the Iowa Economic Development Authority, administers the program and funds for training and project costs are generated by using tax credits from the employers’ regular withholding taxes which are paid for the employees in the created jobs.
