On a warm, humid Saturday in Mt. Vernon the Iowa City Regina offense matched the weather. The Regals eliminated the Mid-Prairie baseball team from post season play with a 16-6 win in five innings during the first round of district play. It was the Golden Hawks who got on the board first with a run in the top half of inning number one. The Hawks loaded the bases on singles by Jackson Yoder, Seth Eash and Wyatt Cady before Yoder came in to score in a Regina error at short. The Regals would take the lead back quickly as the first two men reached in the bottom half of the first in front of Jake Brinkman who took Eash out of the park for a three run homer.

Regina would add to their 3-1 lead in the third inning as they sent 10 to the plate, scoring six runs on a half dozen hits to make it 9-1. The fourth inning saw the Regals send 10 more to the plate, putting up five runs on six hits to stretch the lead to 14-1. Facing elimination in the top half of the fifth, the Golden Hawks rallied with five runs on two hits to make the score 14-6 and force a bottom half of the fifth. The Regals ended the game with two runs in the bottom half of the fifth.

Eash took the loss for the Golden Hawks going three innings, allowing six hits, nine runs, walking one and striking out two. At the plate Mid-Prairie was led by Wyatt Cady who went two for three with a run scored and an RBI. Regina advances to play #10 Alburnett in the second round of districts Tuesday. Mid-Prairie ends their season at 9-20.
