Nearly half of a million more acres of soybeans were planted this year than projected in March, according to the USDA acreage report. In Iowa an estimated 84.8 million acres of soybeans have been planted. Corn is down 4% with 91.6 million acres planted. Soybean area for harvest is estimated to be up 11% from last year at 84.1 million acres.

It is noted by Grant Kimberley, Iowa Soybean Association director of market development, that recent rains, hail and wind damage weren’t accounted for in the recent report and harvested acres will likely be less than estimated in the report.
