Washington County is under a disaster declaration, as declared by the board of supervisors. Washington and Keokuk Emergency Management Coordinator Larry Smith states this is a routine part of the process in order to receive any federal funding. Also, to be considered the county has to have at least $77,000 in damages, which Smith states the county has when combined with the City of Kalona. He adds FEMA representatives will review potential projects for federal funding. Also, Smith states it may be some time until it is known if the county is under a Presidential disaster declaration.
