A program partnering an adult looking to improve literacy skills and an adult willing to volunteer is underway in Washington. Through the Kirkwood Washington Regional Center an adult literacy program is being held. Dr. Monie Hayes who oversees the program explains the pairs meet at area libraries or coffee shops for about an hour each week to go over reading, writing or other skills. The Kirkwood center does provide continuous aid and materials. Hayes adds she feels it is an important program for the community as it is a way for people to live more meaningful lives as they increase their literacy skills.
