A local Baptist church is celebrating its 125th Anniversary this weekend. The United Christian and Baptist Church in Kalona is hosting a worship service tomorrow at 2pm in observance the milestone.
According to longtime member of the church, Steve Reif, the Christian Church, also known as Disciples of Christ Church, began in 1896, while the Baptist Church started 6 years earlier in 1890. He says when both churches were without a minister in 1955, they hired and shared one. Then on Easter Sunday 1956 the two congregations came together for the first Union worship service.
Following the afternoon service, the public and anyone with a connection to the church is invited to attend a time of fellowship.
