Rental inspections were the only item on last night’s Washington City Council special session agenda. Area landlords, property owners and tenants voiced their opinions and suggestions regarding the proposed annual inspections and registration for rental properties in the city. Landlord Kevin Peiffer suggested changes, such as explaining the term reasonable, contacting the owner and not the tenant before entering the property and not having annual registration.

City Administrator Brent Hinson stated education for property owners and tenants will be part of the implementation of the code. Also, Hinson explained the fees associated with the code will not be determined until the council approves the code and the extent of the inspections and implementation is established. The fees will be addressed at a later council meeting.
